Using water based products for instrument finishing, Target Coatings 9000 6000 and Varathane WB

Thanks Bruce! The problems may be that as soon as I was having a minor issue I would try to get the gun to spray smaller droplets, as well as adjusting the fan spray. Also I have been using about 30psi. As soon as the weather gets warmer back here in Berks county PA, I'll try spraying with...

Using water based products for instrument finishing, Target Coatings 9000 6000 and Varathane WB

Bruce, What size tip are you using in your gun? I feel some of my finishing issue may be caused by having the wrong size tip on my sprays guns.

Hot Wire Cutter For Removing Fingerboards

Bruce, from 1989 to 2007 I worked with machines that used this concept to seal plastic heat shrink film over a package food product. Since then I work with machines that wrap skids of product with a stretch wrap. They cut the plastic the same way. They used nichrome wire just maybe slightly...

Beautiful work Mapelglo! Maybe I missed it in earlier posts, but what type of clear coat are you using that fully hardens that soon for finish sanding?

Edit: Ok,...not LED but Fiber Optic fret position markers question.

Maybe this has been mentioned, so sorry if i missed it. But you might be able to use a larger diameter fiber optic and a 90 degree light pipe. Light pipes are meant to be used with LEDs but if you can find the right size it would probably work well. That way you would not have to worry about...

Where to get shielding paint cheap?

Hopkins, Could you please post a pic when its dry? I am curious how it looks in the electronics/pickup cavities. I always liked the look and function of copper tape over the look and function of graphite paint. I wonder how this will compare.

Router bits just not cutting it

I find with some of the box store bits like Bosch from Lowes, skill and others, that they work great and last if you do not take deep cuts and you use a lighter feed rate. The better bits like the Freud may cost more but they can take more abuse. Deeper cuts and faster feed rates.

MOP for fret lines under epoxy...good or bad idea??

You could open up the slots in the fingerboard and have wider inlays. normal fret slot is about .023" . you could make them wider to what ever you want.

Using water based products for instrument finishing, Target Coatings 9000 6000 and Varathane WB

I'm currently using the EM6000 and other Target coatings products. However since I am not a prolific builder I find the product goes bad from sitting and since I have a very small area to work in, getting all the spray equipment setup is a pain. I was wondering if anyone has used the varathane...

    Gluing in frets

I'm no expert, but if the fret slot is cut to the correct thickness no glue should be needed. But even with perfectly cut fret slots I still use a very tiny amount of CA glue in case the fretboard shrinks due to humidity issues. I dont want any of the frets to shift or come loose years later...
