Can't find the receipt Burwabit, they do exist though, other Fenders from around that time had them too. Are you missing the top part or the bottom?

Nice! I put Hipshots on mine with an Xtender for drop-D tuning, Wilkinson do some decent tuners as well, straight swap for the Fender ones

I ordered replacement knobs from Fender, I was missing the tone pair. Not too expensive as I recall. I too have QPs in my Cowpoke but I still find the bridge pickup to be weak, I tend to dial it out completely. All my Precisions have QPs so they are more or less balanced...

Basses look great Brando28 and wabbit. I was tempted to go with gold hardware on my walnut-finished Cowpoke but couldn't get the bits I wanted. They seem to be good basses to mod, plenty of scope to do different things. Wabbit - is the preamp on yours the same configuration as the stock...

On eBay in the UK at the moment http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-P-BASS-SPECIAL-COWPOKE-1995-EXELLENT-CONDITION-/120930882121?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1c280ad249

Nice selection Rip! I have a self-build P in the same sort of colour as the one on the left, my tribute to John Deacon who stripped back both his sunburst Ps to natural. Tasty but less versatile than the Cowpoke. Incidentally, mine doesn't have that hole. Wonder why not? 95 MIM, maybe things...

Have a look at the Fender Precision Lyte if you can't get a Cowpoke, small but awesome. There are a couple listed on eBay in the UK at the moment. I have both side by side in a rack at home and there's not much to choose in terms of size and spec This looks decent: Fender Precision Bass Lyte...

The stock pickups are MIM and the Jazz one is awful. A word of caution - the wiring attaches to the circuit board with some long, thin spade clips in a plastic mounting, rather than being hardwired. I upgraded to Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders and found it a really fiddly job to wire them as I...

Nice stripped Cowpoke, Rushbo! They look good in a wood finish, think 'natural' needs the scratchplate to finish the look... £260 is a bargain!

Found this for any Brits thinking of indulging themselves... fender precision bass guitar | eBay Think mine cost less but it was knocked about and the seller clearly didn't know what it was. £300 is probably fair ($450 or so for the Colonials)

Here's my completed Cowpoke, now with Quarter Pounder pickups. Sounds great, especially with a drop-D

jumbodbassman - not sure on your jack socket, I replaced mine but the wires held together so I just swapped them one by one. I'd guess it's a pretty standard setup for most active basses so try the Fender support pages. The tip on your lead is generally the hot (live) part, I'd imagine that's...

I spent a long long time stripping it. The lacquer was really thick but had been chipped, basically I was able to get a slim knife blade underneath and piggle away until most was off. I then sanded it, the horns were the worst bits as it had to be by hand. There's also a sealant layer under the...

Here's my (re)finished Cowpoke. Not the best pic, she's got a sort of oiled satin finish, looks very nice under stage lighting and exactly what I was hoping for. Standing by to be slated for not putting the scratchplate back on... :)

My 'project' Cowpoke is almost done. Took it back from sunburst to bare wood - there was a hell of a lot of clear sealant under the paint finish - stained a nice deep walnut and oil-finished. I've fitted Hipshots with a drop-D Xtender and it has a top loading Hipshot bridge - like the high mass...
