Sorry, I didn't clarify- I will definitely be using a short scale neck (love the shorties). When you say "a little scooping out" is this something you can do by hand or is it a router project?

Count me in! I love shorties. I don't think I'll ever buy another long scale bass again. I currently have a reissue Mustang, an SX SJMB 62 and a Kimberly I got at the pawn shop for $99.

I'm also strongly considering something like this. Right now I'm leaning toward buying a Jazz Bass and tele body from Rondo. Salvage the neck, tuners, bridge, pots and knobs from the bass and put on the tele body. That leaves a pickup (leaning towards SD quarter pound) pickguard, switch plate...
