    If it's that shiny it's probably a reissue like mikeswals said. I don't know any way to tell for sure.

    Or it could be a late 57 to late 59 Precision bridge? If I'm not mistaken those had the fine thread saddles.

    D string intonation went wonky

    Is the threading in the saddle and the threads on the intonation screw in good shape? Maybe loose or slipping under string tension?

    I would think so, but if the string tension changed it would allow the string would oscillate just a little more?. Allowing the string to just touch the fret? Like I said, I'm no luthier though. I'm just spit balling here. Your idea of pushing on the strings behind the nut is a good one...
