Stephen Whiting passed away on May 21. Steve was the bass player of The Misunderstood from 1965-67 and was a crucial component and instigator of all of the incredible music they made. Starting out in Riverside, CA the band pushed their music into new territory with the addition of radically innovative steel guitar player Glenn Ross Campbell, forging their supercharged proto-psychedelic Blues sound.

these B&W photos of The Doors at the Whisky A Go-Go were just recently published by original club booker, Ronnie Haren. She had seen them play at the next door The London Fog, with her friend Peter Asher, on the very night the band had been fired. Watching Jim Morrison on vocals, Ray Manzarek on keyboard, John Densmore on drums, and Robbie Krieger on guitar, Ronnie saw charisma, poetry, and fire, she prophetically told Asher, "I just found the American Rolling Stones," and booked them as the Whisky's house band. That night, her gut instinct launched a whole new chapter in rock history. The Doors auditioned on May 9, 1966 and then played their first gig at the Whisky on May 23 with Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band, and Buffalo Springfield. The Doors’ last performance at the Whisky was August 23, 1966.
Ronnie introduced Robby Krieger last night at the Whisky for their 60th anniversary show.
