so i put dimarzio model p pickups in my p bass. ive had them in there for a couple months and im not really digging them. the mids are TOO much, basically overpowering the highs and lows. so i go up to radio shack and get a .1uf cap to replace my .047uf stock cap. holy sh!t this is the TONE! it...

update: it was the 4 supply capacitors in the power amp. they were dried up. tech told me it was sending too hot of a signal to the tubes making it sound thin. the beast is back and better than before!

yeah very true about different types of distortions. i play a p bass thru a vintage svt and ampeg 8x10 with the bassdrive.sounds gnarly putting it in comp-cut and diming the tone and overdrive...oh yeah and hitting that boost! holy tube distortion!

i have the fulltone bassdrive, i should be able to get pretty close with it in vintage mode. thanks!

thanks steve! good info. it originally had the 12ax7 in the preamp but the tech put it back to 70's specs with the 12dw7s and a few resistor changes.

no, channel 2 normal sounds better for some reason.lol. the clarity of the mids is weird on channel 1 normal. its almost like the mids are over powering the bass and treble.

maybe the preamp tube that operates the mids is messed up? all of the tubes light up. i just want this thing in good working order.
