Yeah, the mother of friend who gave me the boards said it's probably oak as well. Will do some research online as well. When you say 'pretty open', do you mean 'quite open' or 'lovely open grain'?

While it might be so, chances of getting it in my country (and from some friend's random old attic) are kinda slim :) gotta check your suggestion online and see if it fits

Alrite, thanks - not sure about pine, the board is really heavy and dense and hard. It does have, just like the left board, white wood streaks like I saw on walnut for example. Maybe it is an oak, hmm hmm.

I was always wondering if the white (yellowish) part of the ebony is more soft or less dense or...?

I just stripped a black 1999 MIM strat with a cigarette lighter, a hairdryer, a candle and thin spatula... took me about 90min, the wood is untouched (with exception of couple of dents and scratches from spatula)

Impressive, I've been thinking of making similar thing for a decade. Very elegant design, great execution. I do would like to hear it in a more bass style situation too

You can always take a file/rasp and have a go at it, then sand it smooth - it goes really fast, i did that to one of my (now ex) telecaster-copy guitars and it was totally fine
