Regular Long Scale Strings for 35'' Scale Bass

Hi everyone, I'm currently living in a country where bass string options are quite limited. Because of that, I'm considering using standard long scale strings — for example, Elixir 14202 — on my 35" scale 5-string bass (a Sire M2). Do you think this would cause any issues? I read somewhere that...

    Sire Bass Club!

Hey all, just wondering if any of you guys use the normal long scale Elixir strings (for instance 14202) on any of your 35'' scale Sire basses? I'm planning to restring my 5 string M2. I guess they will not let me string through the body but will they work if I string them through the bridge?

Selling Unused Pedals - Yay or Nay

Hey everyone, I’m not really a pedal enthusiast, but I’ve had some experience with them. For years, I used the SansAmp Programmable BDDI, although I never really loved the tones I was getting. That said, I did appreciate the nods I’d get from tone experts whenever I pulled it out of my bag...

Don't want to be the uptight one anymore

Thank you for the reply. And I agree, this is the answer to what I asked, and what I have to do. But practicing gratitude would have been much easier if people practiced their parts properly before coming to rehearsals or gigs 😅

Don't want to be the uptight one anymore

I have been playing bass for more than 10 years, been in and out of many bands through various genres, never considered myself as a great bass player (but always tried to compensate by working my parts more than enough) and worked with musicians who I perceive to be both above and below my level...

Flatwound player looking for natural, low gain grit/bloom.... Blackberry?

I'm a very new owner of a Laney Digbeth preamp. I mostly use it with my PJ bass with Rottosound flats. The tube simulation is pretty convincing.

Help me chose among budget friendly di/preamps

Sorry that I couldn't update earlier. I shied away from Nux because I did not want to deal with computer, drivers etc. I went with Laney Digbeth. Had the chance to use it once live. I put a compressor and an octave pedal in front of it and had a pretty solid sound.

Help me chose among budget friendly di/preamps

Thank you for the suggestion. My opinion is probably not based at all, but Palmer has always struck me as a practice amp primarily. I'll try to do some reading on people's experience with it live.

Help me chose among budget friendly di/preamps

thanks all for your input on this.. I was ready to pull the trigger on Nux preamp when a new contender, the Laney Digbeth came along. Now I'm between these two. While the Nux seems to be ahead with its simplicity the Laney attracks with its value. If anyone has feedback among these two would be...

Help me chose among budget friendly di/preamps

I've been trying to work with my Sansamp Programmable BDDI for nearly 5 years now and I think it's time for me to try something new. I am gigging with different bands through various genres (progressive rock, rock'n roll, blues, pop and lately jazz standards) and in different venues. Most of the...

What is an iconic guitar solo that should be played note for note?

I've had many discussions about this with several guitarists. They often advocate that it's not musically valuable if they do not put their own voice to the solo, that the audience would rather listen to the original recording if the live band is playing the solo exactly as it is. I often...

    The price of strings!!!!!

On top of that, if you're from a country where 1 USD equals about 19 units of your currency, you are pretty much stuck with whatever flats you managed to buy years ago, and maybe some rounds that feel like flats.

    New Year's Eve Gig

It was a trainwreck alright, one of the worst I have ever seen. Yet I did not feel too bad/guilty about it because there were so many problems before it came to my experience with the genre or even the competency of the drummer. For starters the 'stage' was too small, there were no monitors...

    New Year's Eve Gig

Thank you all for your input. I have managed to get the other people in the band to meet for a rehearsal, alas not earlier than the 26th.Still, I guess it will give us an opportunity to see how much of a trainwreck we're headed for. By the way it appears that the band will consist an acoustic...

    New Year's Eve Gig

About 2 weeks ago a (particularly bad) drummer I have gigged with once called me and asked whether I was available to do a gig on New Year's eve. Having never played in the required genre before (basically some Greek/Turkish folk music), and not being too keen on studying a whole new setlist...
