Guys, Went back to stock pups on my MM JB4. Though the hum exists, tone is more meatier than Ultra Jazz. Tried the ultra jazz pups on my Toby4 and the same pick up hums whereas the other one is almost silent. Hum goes away when I turn the bass in a particular direction. Guess one is faulty...

thanks Lokikallas. Pups are wired in humbucking mode. twiggled the wires and the damn hum stays put. Have used heatshrink on all solder joints.

Thanks Killed by death Redid all the solder joints. resistance measures 0.1 ohms between the pot bodies and sleeve of output Jack. there is a slight but noticeable hum when the bridge pickup volume is maxed.
