Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass4

Guys,

I have a Fender MM Jazz Bass that I got shipped from the US to UAE. I love the tone and playability on the lower registers and don’t really like the tone and playability in the higher registers so much so I don’t play the instrument much. Buzzing when I go past 14th fret on D and G strings. Hate to slap on this. Changing strings didn’t help. Neither did action or truss rod adjustment .Local luthier doesn’t have much experience on basses. I have a beginner’s MTD that I’m more comfortable till 24th Fret but hate the tone on both finger and slap. Changed to Dimarzio PUPs on this but still don’t like it.

Amp is Swr working Pro 12

Will changing the neck on MM help? Fender and warmoth necks are pretty expensive and Have second thoughts on buying online after this disaster.

Your thoughts on Allparts JB necks -Fender licensed on EBay.

Sounds like you need a setup and possibly some fret dressing. Take it to a pro and you’ll love that bass.

Yo Shiv, you might need to have the neck shimmed. Good luck.

I quite like the neck on my MM. Yes a proper set-up would be a good place to start. I had Nordstrand NJ4 70s pickups on mine which I thought were an improvement unless you wanted something brighter.

Changing the neck wont do anything if the setup isnt right.

A good luthier will ba able to level and polish the frets without any problems. Cheaper than a new good quality neck.

On one of my jazz bass, I have some Dunlop Marcus Miller stainless steel super bright rounds and it rumbles a lot on low notes and screams and throws a lot of punchy mids and treble.

Worth giving them a try in your situation.
