    Drilling into the body?

You, Sir, are a MADMAN. I would not have the guts to do this to my red SB4. It looks great! Do you like the jatoba fretboard better than the maple on the red one? I think the blue looks really good.

Sandberg Appreciation Post - Show us those German Basses!

How new is it? It looks like you've been playing the crap out of it.

    How low is your action?

It's completely childish comments like this that make Talkbass my favorite community, and make me miss playing in a band. I don't miss the aggravation, Brother.

Sterling by Musicman SB4 SDOTD $269

I bought the red one for $249. I think I would have bought the blue one, if it was the same price, because I like the "jatoba" fretboard, whatever jatoba is. I do hope I like it. I'm also really hoping it doesn't have fret sprout, like most of the Sterlings I picked up at guitar center.

Talk me out of buying a bass

This is actually correct. My girlfriend saw my new bass and thought it was a guitar. I told her it was not and explained the differences. Her reply was: "So what". Nobody cares, and the vast majority people don't recognize any significant difference between how different basses sound in the...

    NBD - '04 USA G&L L2000

That is a really nice one. I had an L-2500 that was the same color and also had a bound body. I really liked it, but it was heavy. Don't worry about the mid-range growl, mine was the same, and everybody thought it sounded great live. You'll be fine with that bass.

    G&L Club Part 7

The sparkle on your L-2000 is absolutely ridiculous. I've never seen anything like it. I love it. What an incredible instrument for the stage.

Sterling by Musicman SB4 SDOTD $269

Would you recommend it after owning it for a couple of months? Is its tone versatile? Can it remotely pull off a vintage sound?

Four or Five? I like this perspective.

I am a guitar player, who also plays bass, and I put down the bass for a just a few years. I'm picking it back up again. While the preference for 4 vs. 5 is highly personal, it does seem to me that 5 strings (and I could be totally wrong) seem to be steadily gaining in popularity with players...

    Hearing Loss and Ear Plugs

What OtherBarry just said. Turn down, put in earplugs before you even get into the area where the band is rehearsing or setting up, or be prepared to never being able to hear the music clearly, over the ringing.

Double Bass Next Phase of Music

Off topic, but....I lost my old, cheap MIDI keyboard in a move. Lately, I've just been entering notes in the DAW with the mouse. I can build a case for it, for me. Sometimes, I feel that it results in less "fooling around" playing sounds with the keyboard and more of a deliberate thinking of...

Double Bass Next Phase of Music

I listen to a great deal of orchestral and big band music with many different acoustic instruments. Those strings sound synthetic to me. I would be fooled if he kept it very simple in the demo, but he didn't. He kept taking it to the point where you can hear the problems. He could absolutely...

Double Bass Next Phase of Music

I'm trying to help out here with some information. I'm not 100% sure exactly what Fran Zappa did with a Synclavier. It looks like he used a Synclavier II. Just to classify what a Synclavier II was: it was a FM synthesizer/sampler. To put this in some kind of context today, a teenager with a...
