Happy for you dude. Instrument prices are way out of hand. $1,100 for the vintera 60's jazz bass which I prefer over the American performer. Just take your time and do your around wisely.

You sound like someone who really played both. I have two basses with each and the model j pups sound more like a jazz bass. Today's jazz basses come with extra bright pickups. The mid-range is very important.
I was in a class using the Simandl red book. Instructor insisted on everyone using the same fingering. It sounded much better. Learn to do many things possible on your instrument it only makes you better. Try playing scales down one string.
I saw someone write fingerings and positions don't make a difference. They do if you're playing in a section because everyone should be playing the same exact thing.
