Pickup ring screws for a 66 hofner club bass!

I think I have answered my own question. Found some 2mmx18mm mij humbucker ring screws that should fit the bill. If anyone would like the to wire their hofner the way this one is I can draw up a diagram.

Pickup ring screws for a 66 hofner club bass!

hi all, i have been tooling on my first bass/my father’s old bass...its an old hofner 500/2 that he refinished waay back in the 70s. I played it as a kid despite having three strings and a two missing tuning buttons. I eventually got a re-pop set of tuners from hofner, and a labella set for it...

Adding maple lines to a pulled-fret fretless

Copy that, Slidlow! Thanks! I also thought there might be more potential for chip out on the outer edges of the lines with the end grain facing up...

Adding maple lines to a pulled-fret fretless

Quick question for the more knowledgable. Ive got a 1980s hohner “the jack” headless bass, it came from a yardsale with the frets pulled and rounds on it. I used my fret saw to clean out the slots and have maple veneer of the proper size to glue in, radius block to to a little smoothing, and a...

Any love for the old conrad/aria/etc violin/scroll basses?

i just picked up a super cool non branded japanese beatle bass copy the other day, took the whole thing apart and cleaned it, neatend up the frets and cleaned up the finger board, better fit the bridge to the top, and then decided id pot the pickups. I didnt have any experience with working on...

    new old bass day!

Im statrting to think the same. Im excited to compare to my buddy’s but just to stack the deck in my favor im going to now wait until ive really got it tuned in. I offered him a free setup for his troubles, so maybe we wont leave too sore if the suntech is a sleeper. ;)

    new old bass day!

Well, while assessing the slight buzzes the suntech i realized that if i were to try and level the frets id practically have a fretless because the finish on the fingerboard is so thick. So i went to town on it and got all the finish off the fingerboard and about 99% of the pink coloration off...

    new old bass day!

That dixon looks a lot like the aria and electra branded fakers. Id suspect they were mostly all made by matsumoku but at varying finish levels. If you look up fakenbacker (i think it is) on the forum you will see quite a few different examples. Some of them are drop dead gorgeous with figured...

    new old bass day!

Well, so much for a good effort. I wired up the 500k dpdt push pull with pigtails to add into the circuit and its too tall for the cavity depth. Without really any excessive funny stuff it wont be able to fit. All is well though. I kind of like the twangy snarl of the bridge pickup anyhow. And...

    new old bass day!

I took the cover off mine when I potted the pickups earlier today. Its much more playable without it. That delete plate is really attractive! I love the look of those maple/walnut natrual ricks...this copy sadly has me jonesing for one now! I do have a mini 500k push pull pot in my parts stash...

For those interested this is the neck pickup thats about to get a nice little wax bath. They really did some serious down to the details work on these instruments. Im really excited to get it all “teched”!

Or maybe they accidently mixed some Himalayan pink salt in there with the mop ;)

    new old bass day!

Artman, I paid $650 for it. Which should leave me room to make a small amount of profit on it if i ever choose to let it go. I work as a guitar tech, so all the little needs i should be able to iron out myself. There is a bolt on “dixon” fireglow rick copy on the flea bay right now for 750+70...

    new old bass day!

They are a little pink. It almost looks like the thick epoxy like fb finish has some red/pink tint to it. The inlays themselves remind me of glitter mixed with epoxy. Luckily the truss rod (single) is in great shape! It does have a little big of rizz on a few frets on the g, and some of the...

    new old bass day!

Wow! Totally different beast with the rounds on it! It almost growls/grinds like a fretless! Adjusted the truss rod, cleaned up the frets, and adjusted the bridge....i think the previous owner had flipped the bridge around backwards when he last changed the strings....cant wait to get it next to...
