    Chromes VS Fender Flats

Well, the problem has been cured. 9050s came off and a new set of chromes put on. Wow!!! What a difference. No Clangy Zingy metallic sounding ********. Just warm robust low end thump. These are going to sound amazing in about 4 weeks. Can't wait to break these in. But already 1000%...

    Chromes VS Fender Flats

Bought a set of chromes today. Tomorrow the fender flats are coming off and the chromes are going on along with a brand new set up. As far as Im concerned, you get what you pay for.

    Chromes VS Fender Flats

It seems to me that fender strings out of the package have a very zingy metallic sound, and I'm sorry but my chromes did not sound like that out of the package, they were almost upright sounding right out of the package and have mellowed into smooth butter. I'm beginning to think that fender...

    Chromes VS Fender Flats

My p-bass pickups are "duncan designed". The bass is a squier vintage modified precision bass

    Chromes VS Fender Flats

My chromes were not zingy at all or metallic "tinny" sounding out of the package compared to these. These fenders sounded like Rounds when the bass is not plugged in. I have the chromes on my vintage modified jazz and it sounds like Motown and stax. These fenders on the vintage modified p...

    Chromes VS Fender Flats

Just bought a set of fender 9050s in medium gauge for a P-Bass and they sound like roundwounds. Completely disappointed. Many reviews say the fenders are nearly identical to chromes which I have on my jazz........oh so far from the truth!! My chromes which are about 4 weeks old sound like...

Labella 1954 flats on a squier VM jazz?

Hello all, I'm thinking of replacing my medium gauge 50-70-90-110 D'Addario chromes with the labella 1954 "Jamerson" set which I believe is 52-73-95-110. I currently play a squier vintage modified jazz bass. Any thoughts if you think this is a good move? Better sound? More authentic Duck...

    Flatwounds and stock pickups

I don't know guys, these D'Addario chromes have finally settled in and hand enough oil from my fingers on them and play time that they really sound like many of the classic rock tunes I've been playing. I have heard that daddario chromes are brite flats but compared to a roundwounds these...

    Flatwounds and stock pickups

If you play a jazz bass with the bridge pickup all the way down and the neck pickup all the way up does the jazz bass sound more like a p bass? With flatwounds I seem to be getting that very sound but I could be wrong

    Flatwounds and stock pickups

I see that fender makes 1964 and 1974 vintage pickups. They are about 139.00. I don't know much about pickups as stated earlier but why go Aguilar if you could be fender made 1964 style Pickups?

    Flatwounds and stock pickups

Thank you for your lightning fast reply. The squier VM jazz used to come with duncan designed pickups. However, within the past year or two they now have "fender designed" pickups manufactured overseas. So I don't know what to make of them. When I play blues brothers songs or booker t songs...

    Flatwounds and stock pickups

Hello all, Currently I'm playing a squier vintage modified jazz bass with D'Addario chromes flatwounds. The bass has the original stock pickups. I am very uneducated on pickups. I was doing some research and I've been looking into dimarzio ultra jazz pickups. However, I play flatwound...
