It has been well cleated and should not pose a problem. I do realize they affect the value of an instrument.

I don't think it has been cut down. the purfling is perfect. I'm sure that's the way it was made.

This bass is a stunner. The varnish has a subtle red layer underneath. It may even be French. I think this bass was originally a larger scale and converted as you can see from the pegbox. Scale length is 41", lower bout 26", upper bout 19.5". I live in the Kansas City area.

Here's another old bass brought back from the dead. I'm guessing 1920's German. It has a new neck and high quality fingerboard. Top off restoration and it sounds pretty good. It has a fancy purling badge at the top of the back if that helps identify it. Has a 41" scale length, lower bout 25.5"...
