Muting an E, but I do it over the 5th fret. And I'll try not as hard. Oh, and I wanted to ask, where should I slap it at? Some people say slap and hit the string under, but that always makes a weird sound for me, while others say just bounce off. How and where should I slap the bass string...

I have an Ibanez IJSB90BK, and I was wondering, I'm new to slapping, and when I slap the 5th fret on the E string, it doesn't sound different from a mute on the E-string. Am I doing something wrong?

Would playing a song that has a drop D tuning on my bass which is tuned standard sound totally different? I don't know exactly how to tune down D or anything.

I'm sort of new to bass, and I rest my thumb on the string above the one I'm playing, instead of it being planted on the pickup. Is that normal? When I look at various covers, I only see 1/50 do that.

I'll look into getting a proper setup. I can't today, but I'll look into it. I've got it to the point that it's ONLY when I lift off now. I listened closely and looked, and it looks like the string it making the noise from one of the metal strips.

It doesn't buzz too much at all. I lifted up earlier and that works, just when I play the E string, I don't press it down enough, so it buzzes. I press a little harder, and it doesn't buzz during the note, but afterwards. I don't know if it's me or the bass, really. But what you said helped up...

Yeah. It buzzes when I lift from the fret. I adjusted my fingering and it buzzes when I lift off. Am I pressing too hard?
