    Fender Squier Sonic Series

I'd be curious if anyone could compare the stock PUP with a Dimarzio Model P? I dont have a Model P to compare too but it seemed that the stock one would be in that ballpark. I too always considered mine a modding platform, and I really like the Geezer. The E string sounds quite a bit...

Songs to practice quick ghost notes?

Thanks for that, I'll try to pay attention to those details in the future. Its not that I CANT do somewhat quick ghost notes acceptably well, its that I've recently noticed that I find it tough to do spontaniously. I usually do it much like a slap pluck or double pluck, substituting a much less...

Songs to practice quick ghost notes?

I'd like to get better at incorperating ghost notes, more in a quick tripplet/ fast run type context. Think Mike Watt rather than Flea I guess. My dedication to doing exercises tends to be quite poor, so I typically just try and learn songs that incorperate whatever technique I'm working on...

    Preamp to head

Currently, I sometimes practice through my guitar setup, and thats what I do. My guitar pedalboard has a TC Spark booster so just use that as a pre-amp, then run into the FX return. Sounds good enough for low volume practice.

    Fender Squier Sonic Series

Kind of a Meh picture but heres mine. I just played a few and picked the one with the best fret work, it happened to be smurf blue and after installing a cheap tort pickguard it looks damn sexy. It sounded pretty good stock, but I installed a Geezer Butler kit anyways. The EMG Pup actually seems...

    Squier vs Fender Precision pickguard

Being that its marketed for beginners I think the J neck was a good idea. It likely also results in neck dive and fewer whiners.

Small Fender Rumbles vs Small Peavey MAX

I'm admitedly biased against guitar amps that dont have 12" speakers, with the exception of practice amps. I've owned two "real" guitar amps that had smaller speakers, and at high volume they sounded bad IMO. The combination of the Bass 10", and the Fly Rig adding highs/ upper mids does sound...

Small Fender Rumbles vs Small Peavey MAX

I've got a Rumble 40 kicking around the house and its surprisingly good. When nobody is playing bass through it my youngest daughter likes to use it for her guitar, she preffers running a Sans Amp Fly rig and a Boss DS-2 through the Fender to using her Boss Katana. And I must admit, she's...

'96 MIM Jazz Bass, worth it?

See, I think the issue is that the MIM Fenders are currently seen as an upper-mid-grade type product. People seem to have forgot this fact, to the point I have to occasionally wonder if I've lost my mind, but I clearly remember them being a very budget offering through much of the 90's. I...

    Squier vs Fender Precision pickguard

I just put a Fender pick guard on my Sonic, it fit without any modifications. I think as long as its a 13 hole design it will probably work. And it did make it sound better, lol.

Which Bassist was/is a major Influence that motivated you to want play bass?? (Pick one, only)

For me it was Matt Riddle of Face to Face, IMO his playing on Big Choice is still a prime example of how rock bass is supposed to be played. Always present. always filling out the mix, tastefully buisy. Obviously there are others, but that was the first time I really noticed that the bass was...

    P Basses with narrower necks?

    This. I love mine.

    Upgrading a Squier! (Video\Results Included)

The thing there is, the Fender Standard is a different class of instrument. All the low end Squiers I've had were perfectly playable after a good setup, but I've had problems with the electronics in most of them, so installing the Geezer kit was as much about replacing the wiring and pots as it...

    Upgrading a Squier! (Video\Results Included)

I hear you, and I'm of a similar opinion. Thats just the most comon argument against doing these types of projects. Heres a pic of mine, it plays great, it sounds great, and it looks great. IMO it very much "does the thing." RIMG0193 by , on Flickr

    Upgrading a Squier! (Video\Results Included)

I just did this on a Squier Sonic P, surprisingly the stock PUP in the Sonic was noticeably hotter than the Geezer and had alot more bottom end. The EMG cleaned up some muddyness in the low notes that I didnt love and gave it a brighter, less compressed sound with more clarity. For jamming and...
