Tiny Head, Same Big Speaker Cabs: What's the Point?

People have been using the super lightweight (and expensive) speakers as well. I personally like to lower the about I have to carry. If the tone is good, I'd rather make life easier.

    Jazz soloing technique

Actually, John Coltrane used scales quite heavily from the book by Slonimsky, Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns. He inspired a lot of other people. If you pull out all the notes from people's solos, you'll find many that comes from Slonimsky. Jazzers use scales, whether by learning them...

    The death of jamming

Spot on. I'm going to quote you to my band next practice when we discuss jamming. They tend to think jamming is an extended guitar solo.

    The death of jamming

I have found a few people I jam with in new Orleans, but I find the same thing when we bring in someone new--often they're oriented toward sings and have to be encouraged to open up and improvise. It's sad because it's really lack of musical fluency. Like giving speeches all the time instead of...

Are Shorter Scales the Hottest Trend in Basses Right Now?

I have one of each these days that I keep switching back and forth on. As soon as I fell in love with the short scale, I went back and played the long again. Different feel for different moods. I still mostly gig with the short scale, though.

On the electric solid bodies, the design is done and the parts are made by machine. The only things separating the...

Mismatched wings on a brand new bass. Keep or return?

I play left handed, or I'd want to buy it from you.

Mismatched wings on a brand new bass. Keep or return?

That bass is magic. If you can't recognize that, you should send it back so it can reach its intended owner.

Using a 110 cab for a small club blues jam??

Yeah, even if the power rating were real, a single 10 can't push enough air to fill a room.

But if the amp is distorting like crazy, you'll still blow those speakers.

Tc electronic rig advice - please

I have a BH 800 I got on sale a couple years ago for $429. 800 watts. Plenty of headroom with a 2x12 cab I put 2 eminence delta 12s (400 watts each) into. Look around for deals.
