Discovered Nick Campbell & now want to emulate his tone AND style

On the short scale Bronco? It looks like a Guyatone gold foil, either original or a repro. Mojopickups does them: “GTone” Gold Foil | Mojo Pickups

    Interesting "Nut" design on Instagram

It's very elegant indeed but nothing really new. I remember Scott French was the first I saw doing this a decade ago when he was still doing customs. I think he started building again recently and posting on IG.

Short Scale Bass with Narrow Bridge Spacing

Worth looking into vintage Aria basses. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] I have 2 TSB350 that I love, especially because of their hard to find specs for 4 stringers: medium scale (32 or 33" I think), around 16mm string spacing at the bridge and a wide nut (45mm on mine). Maybe they pop up from...

Thank you. If I have some free time why not. I'll check the threads to see what's the theme this year.

this build is moving towards completion. Fashioning the string holder out of a bar of aluminium: Threading the brass saddles and installing them: And making the nut out of Brass: I chose to put the bottom even at the nut and the bridge. I might lower the octave strings a bit at the...

    Short scale 8 string

Interesting idea for a future build, I'll have to check if it can take a bass string gauge. Many thanks, very informative. Out of curiosity did you ever build one with the bass strings above the octave ones like I'm doing and if so how much did it impact your headstock design compare to the...

    Short scale 8 string

Yes, designing a good working and visually pleasing headstock is a struggle. I actually did draw one that allowed me a straight string pull but as you said it looked wonky; I got used to it after a while but it didn't match the body design very well so I scraped it. The current headstock has a...

The finish is dry enough for assembly; I'm not 100% happy with it, kind of sloppy in places but nitro is so soft and thin that I think it'll relic quickly with use and give character to the instrument; anyhow: Shaping the nut and installing the strings: Now this is where I got into a bit of...

    Short scale 8 string

I started the finishing process on the body; First a few coats of caned white nitro primer: Then a few coats of sherwood green nitro and a few coats of clear: While the paint is drying, I finished shaping the neck: And started levelling, crowning and polishing the frets: I put a first...

Started fretting the neck: I then routed the neck cavity and ferrules: Of course I managed to rout the neck pocket slightly too wide so I had to glue a maple veneer to get a tight fit; I really should fashion myself an adjustable neck pocket routing jig next time.

Moving along, I cleaned up the body, put the roundover and carved the arm rest and belly cut: Drilled the pot holes, pickup and electronic cavities:

    Short scale 8 string

I mostly play with a pick nowadays so it seemed logical to build it like this, that way I hit the bass strings first on my downstroke. Still, I turned my previous build (a 4 string) into a 2x2 tuned Aa Dd to give it a go and it felt fine.

    Short scale 8 string

Cut the neck blank to size, glued the fingerboard and put the radius and side dots in: Drilled the tuners' holes: Then I made the template for the body and prepped up the body blank for gluing: ...and cleaned everything up: A mock up:
