Is My Tone Close To Jamerson's Here?

Those sound wonderful! I'm actually replying to give my humble compliments. But let me say that if I was trying to get that sound, I would also consider incorporating the hook finger as @One Drop said or at least playing just a tad closer to the neck. Again, great sound & playing

    Covering an ugly pickup route

I would go with the bigger bridge idea and get a bridge that has adjustable mutes on the plate like the one on the Music Man Classic Stingrays or Rickenbackers, or add a muting module (like bassmute) on the plate myself. A bridge cover might be another option. Also, I know the OP didn't ask but...

    Hollow and Semi-hollow Bass Guitars?

I didn't (still don't) have too much experience with the hollow body basses but I was floored when I tried the JC. Got one, it's been two years with no problems and sometimes I still got surprised how great this thing sounds; even better in the mix. Couldn't be happier. There are a few things...

Another TI Jazz Flats thread? Well, yeah.

I just restringed my Jack Casady Signature with a set and WOW! I guess it is fair to say that there hasn't been a better thing that happened to me for quite a while. :D I know that could have been expected considering all the good reviews but still... Can't even imagine how the bass will sound...

Open Strings Sound Dead When Slapped

Makes sense and that's a relief becase somehow I am kind of reluctant to change the original nut. Okay, now I have my excuse to try Super Brights :D You have been very helpful MrMerrey. Appreciated.

Open Strings Sound Dead When Slapped

Thanks for the good advice. First, I pushed the string down if it touches any area rather than the last frets of the fretboard. I couldn't see any problem there. Then, I tried from very soft to very hard approach and I guess it is the action. I'm saying "I guess" because it takes a harder touch...

Open Strings Sound Dead When Slapped

Thanks for the help. It never occured to me that action would come into play and messes things up only when the open strings are played. If that is the case, I'll give it a shot and raise it. As for the second part, that is much harder for me to have an opinion on. However, as I mentioned...

Open Strings Sound Dead When Slapped

Thanks for the reply. They are not brand new but not dead either. Actually, my other basses' strings are older.

Open Strings Sound Dead When Slapped

Hello TB'ers, I am a dedicated reader of TB, but a lazy poster and this is my first thread. Title might seem more relevant to technique, but I only have the problem with only one of my basses, AVRI '62 Jazz, which is my main. :( A little bit of history on the matter: I have this bass since...

Bass octave MXR Vs. Aguilar (choose your side)

Aguilar Octamizer, for me. I had the chance to try them side by side, the result is: Aguilar tracked, MXR didn't. It might well be me or the three different basses I tried with at the store, but doesn't matter; I was more impressed by the sound of Octamizer. There was also a Micro POG, which...
