    Pre-Gibson Tobias Owners Club!

I disagree about stripping the nut though. The right size and snug fit won’t strip the rod. You’d really have to do something stupid and if thats the case you shouldn’t be doing your own adjustments in the first place. Lol

Just use a small wrench, either 5/16” or 1/4” I forget which end fits. You don't need a special tool. Here’s a video of a Michael Tobias interview where he goes over how he sets his basses up. Some things are basic info but it’s good to have his spec’s as a starting point.

    Bass preamp vs. mic preamp

This is an old thread, but for those who have read it and gotten to the end, I hope the lesson learned it obvious… If you are going direct with a passive bass, leave volume and tone wide open. If you use an active bass leave everything flat. If you are taking a DI from an amp, again leave it...

    DR Sunbeams vs. Pure Blues

I was in a local Guitar Center and the “short scale” package of sunbeams caught my eye. You don’t usually find short scale strings too readily available. They were clearly marked at this location and to my surprise when the cashier scanned them they were only five bucks. I guess it was a Guitar...

    DR Sunbeams vs. Pure Blues

+1 for the RS66LDN’s. Love them on my P bass

Where in the effects chain should I put the high pass filter?

I have a small pedal board which I put before the amp (tuner, compressor, octave pedal, chorus, tone hammer which I primarily use for distortion when wanted). I have my Broughton HPF alone in the effects loop to cut unwanted low frequencies before anything hits the power amp. Works well for me.

Ibanez SR owners: string suggestions, please

Somewhat old thread, but fyi your “tiny adjustments to keep it in tune” is an intonation issue. If the octave is slightly flat then move the saddle forward (turn the intonation screw counter clockwise) until the open string and octave are in tune.

    Pre-Gibson Tobias Owners Club!

24 years of searching and I’ve never found another bass which could come close to the sound I get with my Tobias. Try GHS boomers on it, they bring it to another level!

Looks awesome! Congrats on the find, but the year may not be accurate. Mine is 920 and I bought it new in 1989.

    Your Go-To Short Scale?

    Oh, my mistake. Very cool.

    NAD- Bergantino Forte D

This is an old thread now but I’ve been using the Forte D for about three months now and wanted to comment. I use it a lot with headphones to quietly learn new material while playing songs with the iPhone and aux in. There is no noise and the bass sounds great. (This is not an amplifier that...

    Your Go-To Short Scale?

Cool, but like you said not a short scale.

Anyone actually try the new short scale Stingray?

So I see this thread is a few years old but for reference I wanted to share my experience with the Ernie Ball MM short scale Stingray I just received this month. It is an exceptional instrument. I’ve never played a nicer neck than this with the gun stock oil and wax finish. The frets are...
