Your Go-To Short Scale?

I’ve got a few short scales.
A mustang, jackson and gibby.
All great in their own ways and I love them for different things.

But the go-to is the Gibson DC Junior.
It just punches with such a great tone.
I currently play in a rock band so the mid-punch, ballsy and articulate sound is perfect for it.
I love the neck on it more than the mustang, even though I’ve been a fender player forever.

It’s lighter than the mustang, but heavier than the jackson.
Balance, playability and comfort are all spot on.

My shortie of choice is a Maruszczyk Elwood. I've had it since January, and I still feel like I'm in the honeymoon stage when I pick it up, it's just so much fun to play.

The options with the configurator are many, but I went relatively simple - solid gloss finish, satin neck, no flame or roasting. I did get Hipshot Ultralite tuners and Delano P/MM pups in it. Total cost delivered with a second pickguard was £1250 (a Fender American Professional II bass would run you over to £1650, and I'd put this at least on par).

I have a 2022 Squier Mini Precision Bass, now fretless. It was originally fretted. I was able to get the neck converted to a fretless by a guitar tech at a local music store. In addition, the bridge was replaced with a HiMass one, which manage to still fit well on the bass. I've been playing the bass since I was a teenage kid, and still am able to get away with enjoying a modified short-scale bass. This bass is great for traveling and jamming in special events. The pickups sounds great for the money spent. And this bass was under $200, especially when I bought this bass on sale. I don't know if I need any more mods from this point. Be well!

I'm glad I'm not the only bass player using a HiMass bridge on a Mini P-Bass. I honestly thought the one I bought would be too big. I feel like my Mini P-Bass can last for life. I'd hope the same with yours. Well done! Take beautiful care of that bass. Be well! :)

My go to shortscale is one that I had to put a little of work into.

It's a Squier Jaguar SS with Bartolini 8S pickups (Jazz disconnected, with correct P wiring), and a set of GHS Precision Flats.

It wasn't complete tonally until I added an Orange Crush Bass 50 combo amp.

The goal was to achieve a vintage P bass sound.

Stingray (sterling by MM) short scale
Looks very cool. Neck feels amazing. Surprisingly wide variety of tones from punch to growl. Very well made instrument.
