My Ibanez GSRM20B Neck + GSRM20 body Mikro Bass, though currently it has thinner gauge strings installed to accommodate a G standard tuning, as in 3 half steps above regular 4 string E standard tuning, which kind of really makes it more of a 4 string downtuned baritone guitar, both in terms of feel and tone, than really a bass.
I ponder on, and will in all likelihood do so, getting a regular 30" short scale bass at some point for regular E standard tuning, which my regular 34" scale Aria Pro II Laser Electric Classic currently covers, though I am probably going to set that up for D standard tuning soon (as in 2 half steps bellow regular E standard tuning), to better match the G standard tuning of my Mikro (that way the 3 upper strings of the Aria Pro II would be the exact same tuning as the 3 lower strings of my Mikro).
The
Danelectro Longhorn Bass is one of the leading candidates for that, from what I have gathered from people who own or has own them, and from what I heard in YouTube videos demoing them, they are great instruments, and sounds really great as well.
And if the Danelectros are anything the
Jerry Jones Neptune Longhorn Bass, which is sort of a high end "boutique" clone of the Danelectro, that I once owned and loved, but yet still was stupid enough to sell at some point, something I still regret, they feel absolutely awesome to play as well, even if I realize the Jerry Jones was an about double as expensive instrument.
It's just that I am not as economically well off as I was back then, so I don't have the kind of money used Jerry Jones Longhorn basses typically go for, and beside that they are also relatively rare to find used.
I vote for the Danelectro Longhorn, though if you are willing to spend that kind of money and can find one used then the Jerry Jones clone, don't be fooled by what might look like cheap materials, regardless if that as far as I am concerned they still look uniquely awesome and sound and feel fantastic too.
Otherwise you might like the Ibanez Mikro Bass, incredible little basses for the ridiculous little money the sell for, though I would probably count on having to replace the stock pickups, and also you should be aware that these basses are shorter than the standard 30" short scale, with their just 28.6" scale length.
Here's my Mikro, with some visual mods done to it, and just a single EMG Geezer Butler P pickup installed, wired directly to the output jack output socket, which I replaced and relocated, from the stock side mounted barrel type one, to a front mounted regular standard jack socket, installed in one of the redundant pot holes :
