Your Go-To Short Scale?

Depends. I own three and only play SS basses.

I've got a J style Bacchus WJB Mini (for sale in classified)
A Fender P Bass Mini (from 2006)
And....a Reverend WattPlower for that EB tone.

The Wattplower is a decidedly smooth player that can't make a bad tone. I recommend Reverend as they have several short scales.

That said, if you want a J, hit me up. They're hard to find.

I’ve got the Sterling StingRay short scale and I’ve had it for a few months. What’s Good: it looks great, plays very well and stays in tune. The 3-mode pickup has a decent range of tones and is very quiet in the humbucking mode. What’s Funky: I can’t seem to find the sound I want and it is very touchy about where and how it’s played. Most basses work better for me played with fingers; this one sounds much better with a pick but it has to be plucked in the perfect location.

Having said all that, it’s pretty nice for how little it cost. I’m confident that it’s much better than a Fender Mustang. I bought it because I’ve had three shoulder surgeries in the last 18 months and I’m regaining my range of motion.

I may end up selling this and getting something with two pickups and active electronics.

I have a Squier Musicmaster Vista that’s my go to. Funny I just picked this up today. It’s super short scale. Not sure what I’m going to do with it. Doubt it’ll be a go to

Love all these short/ medium scales, big fan. Not for versatility though- the short scales I've had and loved were because of more unique voicing, as opposed to having chameleon like traits. Here's mine, have had it for around 20 years now, love it. Mid 60's-ish Hagstrom.
Super thin neck, really stable due to the metal T- rod running the length of it. Very aggressive pickups, dummy coil, Frankenstein parts.

I just finished my first "real" shorty (sorry Bronco lovers :bassist:), a Player PJ body with JMJ neck (I love the rosewood board and worn in feel, plus the 1.625 Precision neck. Feels like home!!).
Standard MIM/pre '08 AmStd Precison pickup. I had a SD Hot Jazz pickup that I put in while waiting for my Nordstrand split to come in, but I've decided I might like the SD in this bass (not the one before). Chromes.

Very Fender traditional; not so much Mustang traditional.
