What would be your guilty pleasure bass?

I wouldn’t mind a 1962 spec Fender Precision Bass. No fake aging, just dead on perfect period correct specs.

Blister on fretting hand pinky - options?

I would try to force the blister to dry using denatured alcohol and air. For 3 days. You said 5 mil, yeah, just dry it up and toughen the raw skin. Maybe look for latex or vinyl finger gloves and a bit of padding to see if it holds through practice??? At least it’s not your plucking fingers.

How do you deal with flatwound string brightness when new?

I can’t account for anyone else’s rig. Just glad my amps aren’t burning up. If some people are having issues with nylon wrap strings, I’m sorry they were disappointed if purchased on my recommendation. My tinnitus is pretty bad too.

How do you deal with flatwound string brightness when new?

Original 1964 Fender Jazz Bass Electronics, untouched. Only time I ever heard any noise was facing my amps at rock club volumes. Then she could howl! My primary focus going back to them 10 years ago was to preserve the original frets on both my vintage basses.

How do you deal with flatwound string brightness when new?

Never had an issue since 1974 I’ve been using nylon tape wound strings going that far back. First I’ve read anyone making such a claim. I did read in the note provided, no such issue with D'Addario strings. Had no such issue with LaBella either.

How do you deal with flatwound string brightness when new?

I’m afraid that’s a sizable exaggeration. If your bridge-tailpiece is properly grounded, there’s no issue. First I ever heard anyone complain about a grounding issue. Recorded through an original hand built Legacy API console, not an issue then either. Same bass.

How do you deal with flatwound string brightness when new?

I cut mids and even track neck pickup only to get a smooth fat sound with my jazz bass. What matters is what the mic captures or doesn’t. I can track DI, but favor an amp and cab.

How do you deal with flatwound string brightness when new?

Wow 10 years. Here’s the demo I did mic’d up proper. First with a pick then with fingers.

How do you deal with flatwound string brightness when new?

Nylon wrap around round wound core, so they still sing, without all the unwanted noise. They are wonderful in the studio.

How do you deal with flatwound string brightness when new?

D’Addario Black Tapewound Strings are fantastic for recording. Preserve your frets and also greatly reduce finger clack and screech and so fast and smooth.

Absolutely killer deal. I would expect $400.00 for an unloaded 4x10 cabinet only.
