Used Guitar Center Online Bass - Thinking of Returning

I can live with scratches and scuffs. But that dent in the back of the neck? That would be a deal-breaker for me!

    Are you a 1, 2 or 3+ pickup person?

At this point in my life, I only gig with one of two basses: 2012 Fender American Standard Precision (single split-coil pickup) 2022 EBMM Stingray Special-H 5-string (single MM humbucker) So...ONE pickup for me!

Which strings do you use/like/prefer on your P Bass?

TI Flats have lived on my P-Bass from day-1. To this day, I still haven't owned a bass that I like more.

Cot Dayum - A new Stingray Special is now $2700?!

Well said! I was trying to think of a defense, but I think you said all I could've said (and you said it better).

    Stingray Special. Pickup height preference

Mine is set where the factory put it. I've never adjusted it, and it sounds great. The bass side is lower than the treble side, and the pickup actually sits a lot lower than I expected...but it works perfectly. For me, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Deciding on a Mesa cab

I can't speak for them all. I personally bought a pair of Subway 115s, topped with a Subway D-800+. No regrets!

    Suggestions for Performance Combo Amp

The Rumble 40 is basically a bedroom amp. The Rumble 100 sounds like it would be perfect for your project.

    Electric Bass - 4 String - What's the heaviest gauge G string you've used?

I tried a 55 once on my P-Bass. I got the idea from George Porter, Jr., who uses D'Addario EXL strings sized 55-65-85-105. The result is that it sounded like what I wanted (better balance on the G), and it wasn't nearly as stiff as I was expecting. I thought it worked just fine. Good luck in...

What is most 'growly' Warwick bass?

You experienced the most "growly" Warwick of them all: The Thumb! Any other Warwick will not growl on that level. I've used both a German Thumb NT and a German Corvette, and the Corvette sounded more like a Jazz Bass than a Thumb. If you want that tone, you'll need to get a Thumb.

Do you ever sell any of your basses?

I voted for the second option, but my mind is gradually drifting towards the first. I'm about ready to get down to 2 electric basses...basically two 5-string Stingrays, one with rounds and one with flats. As I get older, my middle-aged self is realizing that I'm not going to ever be an on-call...

Old music, new music: now with poll!

Pet Shop Boys don't represent ANYTHING I was listening to in 1988. In fact, I'm certain that today is the first time I've ever even heard that song. In 1988 (for me), it was Guns 'N Roses, Faster Pussycat, Motley Crue, Poison, and the many other pop-metal bands of the time. There was definitely...

    Which Would You buy?

A G&L Kiloton and a Warrior Messenger both made your short list, but no Stingray? I got a Stingray earlier this year, and I've been kicking myself everyday since then for not getting one sooner. Maybe it's a little out of your budget, but they're really killer basses! Of the basses you have...

    Why no Blues Radio Stations?

I have SiriusXM. It has countless rock stations, 6 or 7 country stations, 4 jazz stations, 4 Christian stations, even Howard Stern has 2 stations, and tons of other genres (not to mention all the sports and talk radio stations). But only ONE blues station: BB King's Bluesville. The nearest...

What's this? (Unusual P bass by Fender)

I like the looks of it. But seems like terrible pickup placement.

Bass Player magazine to close, as brand moves fully online...

I honestly can't remember the last time I bought any kind of music magazine. Like everyone else, I get all my info online nowadays. But not gonna lie...I kinda miss the printed mags. Or maybe I just miss the simpler days when mags were the norm. Or maybe both.
