    building a cab for 1- WGS BG-15C

Well so much for the sealed cab idea. Even at @170 liters, it sounds freaking awful. Good at low volume but turned up past 5, no way. Since I built the amp there's that unknown too; I don't really know how powerful it can get. It idles at 92W w/ 4-6550s. 2 preamps based on an Ampeg B-25B and...

    building a cab for 1- WGS BG-15C

No, it's really a bass speaker. The G15C is for guitar, this is a BG15C. I'm actually thinking of making a big sealed cab for it (W1, H1.618, D0.618) because it will be more forgiving, and making a ported cab for my Peavy Black Widow, for which I have all the specs I need. Nothing could possibly...

    building a cab for 1- WGS BG-15C

I can't seem to find any cab info. WGS doesn't have any. Nobody seems to. I will say that it sounds awesome with a guitar. Here's my uneducated solution: if I can't get an Xmax rating, I'll go with 4mm. Make the cab & cross my fingers.

    building a cab for 1- WGS BG-15C

I don't know who built the cab, it was a homemade job, originally sealed and had a horn which I promptly disposed of. I calculated that it has @ 2.75 cu ft. I'd just like to build something a little better for this speaker which gets good reviews. Is there a "generic" (read, conservative) Xmax...

yeah, I emailed them & they sent me a slightly better TS datasheet but still without Xmax.

    building a cab for 1- WGS BG-15C

That's what I'm doing and I could use a little advice: I bought the speaker a couple of years ago and it's all right in the generic MDF cab I have it in, but I want to build something better & lighter. Problem: the T/S parameters I got from WGS does not include Xmax. Has anyone built a ported...

Information on amp basics. Please HELP

Go to guitar center or equivalent generic store one afternoon & try the amps that are < $500. They usually have an OK selection of brands for that price. You will have to hear for yourself the different sounds available. You don't need an SVT to be heard in a band. You don't have to buy one...

    Sovtek Bassov

That is good. If it's the screens he is talking about. Your amp needs to run well with the 6L6s before your tech goes modding the thing.

15" for an old Fender Cab

The classic 60s sound comes from the classic 60s tube amp you are playing thru. Not to say speaker choice is unimportant. Consider the Warehouse Guitar Speakers 15" bass guitar model, I got one that sounds fantastic in a sealed cab. It's nice & responsive for guitar too.

The Mediocre Bassist Club, pt. 4 - We can count to four!

Not to hijack the thread but I'm fair to middling on bass, at best. And I count. I built a pretty good, ugly bass amp so everyone on my block can get a taste of the sub-average.

    6550 tubes question...

The SED factory supposedly has greater quality control. They're pretty open about their manufacturing facilities in St. Petersburg Russia, whereas the New Sensor tubes (EH, JJ, Tungsol, Sovtek) have fairly murky origins. That said, I just ordered a matched quad of JJ 6550s since they're about...

    12AX7 Tubes

I have tried so many 12AX7s in all of my amp builds, of all different makes. NOS, UOS, TAD, EH, Olympic, RCA, philips, Tung Sol, CHINA, JJ, Sovtek, GE, ad nauseam. You can waste a lot of time rolling tubes. Sometimes a tonal difference is discernable, usually it is due to listening with your...

    Warehouse 15" speaker?

    Wonderful. And USA made, too.

    Warehouse 15" speaker?

Has anyone tried the WGS 15" bass speaker? Is it a good one?

    High efficiency 15"?

Right now I'm running a BW 1508-SPS which has a relatively low efficiency of 94dB. The thing is that the amp head, while not designed by me as such, combines a B25b channel, a 5F6a channel, Sunn PI, and Marshall output. So that is an added "unknown" variable in that I'm not good enough at math...
