Bands that play stupid loud in a small bar

Yes, context absolutely matters. I just turned 50. The band I’m in will occasionally play a tiny bar with a max capacity of 66 people (so sayeth the fire marshall). We use a Bose L1 model II system (2 of them in stereo) with a digital mixer and no sound person. There is no physical space for...

    "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

I put them in a 4 string, but they offer 5 string models as well. I assume they would be very comparable.

    "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

I finally settled on DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickups after the Delano's just didn't have the low end I wanted. The Ultra Jazz pickups are very very close to the MEC Passives but are completely silent. I am very happy with them.

Noiseless Replacement Pickups for Passive Warwick Corvette Ash (4 string)

Thanks Nick. I'm going to test drive the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz set next. Appreciate the tip.

    Warwick active to passive

I have a passive Corvette which I was considering switching to active. Do you want to swap the innards straight up?

Aside from the high frequency content of the noise, it is still very dramatic how much the noise floor was lowered. 30 dB is gargantuan, tone knob down or not.

The Key to a Killer Warwick

Hey ilikebass7 - did you notice a loss of low end when you installed the Delano JMVC's? I just replaced my MEC Dynamic Correction Passives with JMVC's and I lost some of the low frequency which I was not expecting. Definitely way quieter than the MEC's though. Not even a contest there. I...

Noiseless Replacement Pickups for Passive Warwick Corvette Ash (4 string)

I went with the Delano JMVC. I definitely lost the noise, but unfortunately, I lost a little bit of low end also, but I can EQ it back in. I posted samples in the Sticky J pickup thread. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f38/j-pickups-discussion-comparisons-91384/index44.html

    Snarliest, nastiest J pickups. GO.

I have an additional question. Are the Model J's noise cancelling?

    Snarliest, nastiest J pickups. GO.

You don't need a preamp for the Delano JMVC pickups. They're fully passive. I just finished installing a set in my passive Warwick Corvette to replace the stock passive MEC Dynamic Correction J-Pickups, which were too noisy. They are WAY hotter than the passive MEC's. I had to turn the mic...

With Drums in case that matters to anyone.

Here are the audio files of the bass tone. There is some loss in the lows with the Delano's.

Here are the sound-clips of the noise floor test. Pretty dramatic.

    "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

Hi everyone, Just thought I'd share some sound clips I took before and after with my Passive Warwick Corvette Ash bass with J-Style Pickups. While I really did like the tone of the Passive MEC Dynamic Correction single coil pickups, they were just way too noisy (EMI/RFI/60 Hz) for me. I...

Noiseless Replacement Pickups for Passive Warwick Corvette Ash (4 string)

The neck and bridge pickups are different sizes, so that will limit the search a little bit. Bummer.
