Has anyone tried the Nordymute on Tapewound strings? If so did it damage the wrapping on the strings?

Is it safe to use the Nordymute on Tapewound strings, or could it damage the wrapping on the strings? The bass is a Fender Mustang PJ with D'Addario ETB92s strings. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
