I play very conservative basses because I don't have the figure or desire anymore to wear Spandex and big hair and play metal. The most outrageous looking bass I own is a Tobias Classic 5-string with zebrawood top.

An addendum to my post: I once ran over my 1996 Ray with my truck and the only damage (it was in a lightweight gig bag at the time) was a gravel indentation on the fretboard and one on the back of the neck. How can you ask for more from a bass?

Oh, what a subjective question with many many answers! Personally I love the Music Man 5HH but there will be hundreds of other opinions stated here!

I used to own a MIM Fender Jazz Bass and I found nothing at all wrong with it. They are made of American parts but assembly is done in Mexico and they can be had used for $500.00 or less.

Probably will go to a Bergantino speaker cabinet to run my Shuttle 6.0 through; reading many good things about them here.

I don't let people play my basses; if you want to jam/sit in/open mike situation, bring your own. When it comes to my amp, yes you can play thru it but leave the controls the way they are. I also don't like Roger Daltrey imitators with my microphone.
