Dude, that's an great idea that I didn't think of yet. Plus, I have a friend that does wood laser cutting that I'm going to run this by. My only concern would be the very thin walnut overlay on the headstock. But I'm sure there's a way to work around that. Thanks for the light bulb :D

I stumbled on this thread while looking for some thoughts on refinishing my bass with Tru-oil. I opted to follow these instructions, and it turned out great. In anyone else comes across this, here's a link with some pics of my process in case it helps...

From what I understand, Tru-oil differs in that it actually hardens on the surface, versus danish or tung oil which permeate the wood as more a traditional oil would. With Tru-oil, you could actually layer it to create a glossy mirror finish if you wanted, or buff to remove the gloss as I did...
