    To clarify my post, the gain remains tge same, but the increased wattage gives you more 'welly' or punch - exactly the difference you are hearing.

    It's a popular misconception that more watts equates to higher output. What it will give you is increased headroom.

    Because the USA and Japan built guitars are made using CNC routers, yet they do not have the same hole. It's a bit brutal doing that to a musical instrument.

    If the neck date is '66, and the pots '67, it is likely that the pots have been changed as they were generally bought in batches and are usually dated some years previous to, say, the neck date.
