    Music Instrument Shops near London

Andertons is just outside London, to the south west. The other two shops are within walking distance of each other, close to Camden Town tube station. Bovey Tracey is in Devon, you won't find much around there. Bass Direct and Bass Bros are another two excellent shops for basses, depending on...

    Music Instrument Shops near London

If you are after basses then the best shops for big brand stuff would be Andertons and any of the GuitarGuitar shops (links below). The best bass shop in London would be the Bass Gallery, which is quite near one of the GuitarGuitar shops, in Camden Town. The Bass Gallery sells mainly second...

    The Reverend Club (part 8)

I am not a fan of brown basses but that does look good; the gold hardware in particular. I've just put a deposit down on a red Mercalli fiver, to arrive in the next couple of weeks.

    Best PJ for the money

I own 4 PJs: A Reverend Decision P, two Charvel PJ IVs and a Spector Pulse 2. They are all quite different but also, all keepers. I love a PJ, particularly reverse PJs

    Come On Fender!

Yes, I think you are right. I have played that bass quite a lot and I think my finger grease has polished it up but it certainly isn't as glossy as a Squier P bass I used to own.

    Come On Fender!

Actually, now I'm not so sure. Fender says the were 'satin urethane'. My neck feels glossy for the most part but the back of the headstock and the base of the neck are satin. It just feels like gloss for most of the neck but there isn't an obvious change point, so perhaps what I thought was...

    Come On Fender!

Yes, I'm sure. I have just played it. 2019 Player jazz in tidepool blue

    Come On Fender!

As well as the rolled edges, the necks have a 'satin urethane' finish. My Player Jazz has a gloss finish, so I assume this is an another improvement. Bassists and guitarists do seem to be quite traditional don't we. FSOs stay in fashion and people miss the rosewood of old. I also prefer the...

Pine Body: Anyone Care to Opine? (Lol)

According to Sweetwater's website, the Fender American Pro 2 5 string jazz basses in pine are considerably lighter, on average, than the usual (Alder?) basses. Reviews suggest the Pine jazzes are a bit more 'trebly' than the usual Fender American Pro 2, I've not played one myself but I did...

Is a Kiloton more P, or more MM?

I used to own a Tribute Kiloton 4 string. As has been mentioned above, the sound is more Ray than P. There is a honkyness to the tone that comes with a pick up nearer the bridge than the neck. It was a good bass, the pick up was hot and I liked the three variations available from the switch...

Who makes the 5er w/the slimmest neck?

I have a Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas fiver; it has a lovely slim neck, with rolled off edges, the nut width is a reasonable 45mm, I believe and the string spacing is about 18.25mm. Mine could do with lighter tuners, which would help with the weight and (the little bit of) neck dive it has, but...

Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas worth it?

I have the blue and green PJ IV and a red JJ V. I've just started using the fiver again as my new band's singer requires some pretty extreme key changes, and now I'm waiting for Charvel to bring out some more colourful fivers so I can get a back up. I've shielded and replaced the pre amps in...

    The Reverend Club (part 8)

The 'Venetian Pearl' is lovely. It's basically a gold to cream burst with a lemon yellow pick guard, the pictures on the Reverend website don't give an accurate portrayal of its colour. I got the first one that came into the UK. I played this bass, followed by a green Mercalli 4. I thought...

    The Reverend Club (part 8)

Here is a photo of my two Reverends. Apologies, it's not the best, the sun was shining. My new project needs a 5 string, or rather, it would be much easier for me to accommodate the relatively extreme key changes our singer needs, with a 5 string...so I'm tempted to pull the trigger on a...
