    I have that exact model and do not have noisy pickups so I have a hunch that the wiring is at fault for both the noise and the cutting out. I will agree with you about the blend knob basically being a switch though.

    But the marketing said Initial Response Acceleration® would make the more expensive model sound better because vibrating!

    The body is stained and textured so sanding is not an option unless you have a super long time to get it all out. Black is the most likely option unless you want a brown/black burst.

    In the live version I could find, he plays one of those Gibson EB-0s that has the pickup mounted more toward the middle of the body rather than right up against the neck.

    The CAP Sonic Arch neck pickup is a humbucker as well. It sounds great by itself in my 805.

    Yeah those Supro Huntington basses have a piezo bridge that adds brightness if you like a short scale length but miss the clarity of a long scale.

    My Gold Tone MicroBass also has rubber strings, plastic tuners, *and* no frets. I have to cover my hands in baby powder like a gymnast before I play it, though.

    I have one. First thing I did was have the preamp removed and plop in a Stellartone Tone Styler. Now I can use the 9 volt battery compartment to hold all of my coolness for having done that.

    My method has been to just play in the dark since the lines on the top of the board are hard to see and basically suggestions.

    You'll probably get more grief for wearing shorts on stage but everyone sounds like this when they first start playing a fretless bass so don't worry too much. Plus, the church crowd tends to be a bit more...errr...forgiving to performers. Just keep at it unless parishioners start booing.

    Black is the best tonewood but pink makes for the best fretboard material for brightness.
