Class D and Neo cabs are the future!

Not willing to read this entire thread, but.... Class D represents highly efficient, low distortion volts.. As far as a particular 'tone', this is only left to the front end of the amp, and speakers. I suppose one could have an ultra low noise, highly linear solid state front end...

    Shimming a nut

Not sure if it helps the OP... but I onced shimmed a nut (from the bottom) with good results by first wrapping it in scotch tape, to work as a form, then scissored the tape down to a lower height that formed a perimeter. I filled the space with JB Weld, which sanded really well. The tape...

Anybody ever done a 3x15" setup?

I don't see the point... why a 3x15? why not (3) 1x15 and stack them? Why make something so big when the same could be had in modular form?... more power/volume options to boot. More of a 'system' stagedy..

Peavey Classic 30 With Bass Speaker?

I have a '67 Ampeg G-15 that I use for living room playing all the time. The sound is nothing short of wonderful... but I wouldn't dream of turning it pass 3 or 4.. that's all it's good for with a bass. Find a good/old tube head or even a converted PA or organ amp, and play it through a real...

Swamp ash residue after sanding - need advice

What color is it? meaning.. is it offensive? perhaps leaving the grain filled.. <it should be refilled anyways, regardless>.. perhaps this residue lends itself to the new finish? I not sure you can succesfully "unfill" an open grain finish.. Though I've never tried. Have you tried any...

Water damage: how long to take effect?

oh, I;m sorry.. I didn't mean to sound like I was disagreeing with you. I would ASSUME the poster would at the very least air the thing out! If the cab doesn't separate over that, that's a tough cab.. :)

Water damage: how long to take effect?

If it sounds good, it is good.. A godsend I say.. no worries about banging that one around!

    Purist or effects junkie?

FWIW.. I think as soon as you put effects in your chain, you're taking away from the power of your own tone. Pedals to me are a good way to not be you. Bass doesn't need pedals anyway. Every time I start to think about my tone, I go pick up my bass and <mediocre amp> and try to make it better...

    Picking out a P pickup for Reggae/Dub

Yeah, I like that tone... which is part of the issue too, Robbie plays a J. The J has a bit of an unfair advantage over the P wrt the tightness of the tone. I'm thinking about how to mimimize the boominess of a P, without it getting all 'upper-middy'.. Which is why I'll probably replace my P...

    Picking out a P pickup for Reggae/Dub

I'm on the same quest... lookingn for a good P pup to ballpark that type of tone. Couple things to address tho.. What is the Reggae/Dub sound? I'm not a bass expert.. actually I'm a hack who picked up bass just a few months ago. <acoustic guitar convert> And, to me.. the sound is scooped...
