F Hole Plugs for Hollow Body Basses

I took the SA-70 to a luthier when I got it, he reckoned the tone pot should’ve had a much larger range than it does, so changing that makes sense. I have it set to zero 90% of the time for that dead plonky Hofner kind of sound so it didn’t really bother me especially once I got the 75 which...

F Hole Plugs for Hollow Body Basses

Ha! Thanks for asking… I had assumed they were the same construction but I just checked, poked a pipe cleaner in the f hole and it does indeed have a centre block 😮 (also gave it a tap and it sounds solid too)… that explains a lot, much more sustain than the SA-70. The bridge looks the same as...

F Hole Plugs for Hollow Body Basses

I have an SA-70 too (with the F Hole plastic) and a later SA-75 which didn’t come with the plastic. They sound really different, but I don’t think it’s down to the plastic I have no issue with feedback on either, the 75 it just has a lot more growl and much hotter pick ups…

Need a bridge cover for 1974 Yamaha SA-70

I found the dimensions online and 3d printed one. Then painted it with enamel spray paint and scuffed it up a bit so it matches the pick up covers.

    NBD: 1967 Yamaha SA-70

Newer than 67, the earliest ones have black pickup covers, early 70s with the chrome.

    Post your vintage Japanese basses

My two Yamahas 1968(?) SA-70 and 1973 SB50. The SA-70 is a full hollow body, short scale and the SB is a 32 inch. I use rounds on the sb (it’s great with pedals) and I have flats on the SA-70 so it sort of has a tubby hofneresque tone. They’re both great but I’m really attached to the SA-70...

The Official Medium Scale Bass Club

I bought that one! I made what I thought was a low offer but the seller accepted it, and I had to come clean to the wife about another bass purchase. It came with everything, ashtrays, case, a mute thing, and even the original truss rod tool. It’ll need new frets soon, but it’s so cool. I...

Interesting bass I didn't know existed: Yamaha SB-50

I bought this one a couple of months ago. 31.5 inch. Nice build quality, and more importantly sounds and feels really nice. No neck dive at all.

    Keeley Compressor Mini… any thoughts?

I just got one of these, thought I’d replace my Markbass compressore and free up some pedalboard space. The result was a new appreciation for how good the Compressore sounds. I don’t think this was designed for bass, it kind of makes the noises of your fingers on the strings louder, it knocks...

    SHOW YOUR DISTRESSED FINISHES!

This is My bass! Just did a search to see what was on here about these basses and low and behold photos from the Ebay listing I bought it from popped up. Its really great (those Japanese listings where there's three or four of the same instrument listed for sale are weird, but I took a punt...)...
