    How to ship a bass

Thanks, I'm planning on having the buyer pay shipping but knowing an estimate is helpful. Which shipping company would you recommend?

    How to ship a bass

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I ended up getting a properly sized box for the bass in its case from a local guitar store for $5. Perhaps it's $5 I didn't need to spend, but it was convenient and perfectly sized for my bass. Gonna list it here soon.

Laser Cut Plywood Strings , No tension, No Bridge and No Tuners

Huh, I figured the node would be right at the 1/4 length just like on a string that's under tension. My mistake. In any case, if he supports the "strings" right at those nodes I think it would help the tone.

    How to ship a bass

So you think if I go to guitar center and ask them for a spare box they'll have some that they'll just give away?

    How to ship a bass

I'm selling one of my basses, and it's listed on my local Craigslist but hasn't had any interest yet. I could sell it on the forum here or reverb.com, but I'm not sure how I would ship it. I'd ship it in a hardshell case. Any ideas on how to box this up properly?

Laser Cut Plywood Strings , No tension, No Bridge and No Tuners

If I understand your idea correctly, this is similar to a harp or a zylophone in that each "string" will only play a single note that it is tuned to, so there will be no fretboard or fingerboard to change the pitch of each "string". I would call these "keys" instead of "strings", but I'll call...

My Jazz Bass has no balls. Help!

Not all strings age the same, and sometimes strings just lose their character if they get too much gunk in them from playing. It's worth trying a new set before you do anything more extreme like buying new pickups, preamp, or selling the bass.

My Jazz Bass has no balls. Help!

If your strings are older than a few months, try either cleaning them or replacing them. My jazz bass is very sensitive to having old strings and goes from a powerful great sound to a dull thump when they "die". Also it's been mentioned before but check your pickup height. Should be about...

How to avoid resting my thumb on pickups?

Compared to standard Jazz bass pickups they definitely seem kind of compressed to me, so I get what you're saying about lacking aggression. They could use a bit more dynamic range for some kinds of music, but for what I usually play they work well and I can usually run the bass without any...

How to avoid resting my thumb on pickups?

This could be the cause of the noise-- it sounds like touching a pickup on an acoustic guitar (sort of a tapping sound). Not sure if its related to grounding or not. I didn't hear it in my gig though so maybe it's quiet enough not to matter when I'm in the mix.

How to avoid resting my thumb on pickups?

It's not really a buzzing noise issue. More of an acoustic tapping noise.

How to avoid resting my thumb on pickups?

Yeah after all these posts and not noticing the sound at my gig yesterday I suspect it could be a grounding issue. Unfortunately I live in an older apartment and probably can't change the wiring. But at least if I know it's not an issue at shows I don't have to worry about it.

How to avoid resting my thumb on pickups?

They're not moving around, and I hear it when I just lightly touch them. However I think y'all may be right about it being a grounding issue because I didn't hear it when I played a show yesterday. Either it got drowned out in the mix or it wasn't present using their power instead of my home's...

How to avoid resting my thumb on pickups?

Never heard of this-- is it like a thumb rest?

How to avoid resting my thumb on pickups?

I like the way these sound and I'm not looking to put more money into the bass, so new pickups are probably out. I could do the thumb rest if this is an ongoing problem that I can't figure out, but hopefully practicing other techniques will make it work for me so I don't have to drill into the...
