Pairing Ampeg V4-B (70s model) w/ both 8 ohm and 16 ohm cabinets

Thanks for your reply - you're right, speakers are chosen for the enclosure / they are designed together, so I don't expect my modified 210 to perform as well as it good (I used Eminence Alpha 10s which are for a sealed enclosure, like mine, so at least a bit of an alignment, ha). It's a pretty...

Pairing Ampeg V4-B (70s model) w/ both 8 ohm and 16 ohm cabinets

Thanks for this! I had read about that mismatch threshold as well, from everything I'm reading - it's just kind of an unsure and very likely amp-specific, like you said. I did end up setting it up tonight, sounds good to my ears but will continue researching this before I play it out anywhere...

Pairing Ampeg V4-B (70s model) w/ both 8 ohm and 16 ohm cabinets

Hello all, I have a 70s Ampeg V4-B that I've been running with an 8 ohm Ampeg 410HE cab. My longer-term plan was to run 6x10 speakers when needed, but didn't want to deal with a 610 (the gear lives a floor up at my place, plus just like the modular setup idea of a 410 + 210 based on gig, etc)...

@VeryTallBassist - I found the eBay store of @AgingEngineer and I think it's gonna be a no-brainer from me to try one of those pre's in my 5! I'm gonna look into the pickups it has as well (EMG soapbar of some type) to see if they might need to be upgraded as well.

From what I've been learning (and experienced to some extent myself), of all the preamp options Spector basses have come with over the years, what many appear to consider the "classic Spector sound" - something like the bass on Queensryche's "Empire" album - comes from the HAZ preamp, which used...

Thanks for weighing in with your insights @AgingEngineer! Very informative. Considering all this, if I'm after that vintage HazLab tone (I believe I am anyways, based on the video I linked, haha), is there a better version of an op amp than the one I linked (which was more to verify the shape /...

Thank you for the detailed and quick reply, sir! Good to know - to be honest, when I first read that I should use 25k pots, what put me off trying it was what I mentioned in my original post - didn't want to mess with soldering to the circuit board as a newbie to soldering (I'm quite handy...

Hey all! I purchased a NS2-A from a fellow Talkbass'r and have installed EMG active P/J pickups in it. Everything seems to be working as intended - though my question is: I was told I would need to replace the 500k volume pots meant for passive pickups that are installed on the KHAZ with 25k...

Hey! Re: pickups, do you mean you would install the DiMarzio Split P’s instead if wanted or they would be included along with what's in it now? TIA!
