I used to have one of those basses. I am fairly certain it can be repaired. Mine had very shoddy wiring inside the electronics cavity.

The fourth control should be for Mid-Range. The top knob should be the Boost/Cut control. The second knob should be the Freq selection which locates were the Boost/Cut occurs.
