Looking for Howard Bass guitar info

Cool bass - I’ve worked on one Howard bass (not as a cool and Burns-like as yours) and own one Howard guitar - which is very similar to some early Ibanez models. I’m in Boston and both of the Howards were found in Massachusetts - I suspect that maybe Harris-Fandel put the brand on or...

Guitar Paint Guys - buyer beware?

I haven’t dealt with The Guitar Paint Guys yet - but as someone who does a lot of lacquer work (they do poly I believe) I am gonna have to at least point out some of the challenges in refinishing a guitar vs. finishing a fresh piece of wood. I know to someone who’s never done it, it seems...

1968 Ric in action in 1978

Impressed with the crowd control barrier - which seems to be a piece of twine strung in front of the audience.

SOLD 1958-59 Danelectro 3412 shorthorn. Not a reissue.

That hole was undoubtedly put there so someone could avoid the great expense of a guitar hanger or a stand - and instead just put that little bass on a nail sticking out of the wall. Not the first time I've seen it !! But these are very cool little instruments - I have a nearly identical one...

Submitted for comment: 10/60 Jazz Bass - factory neck refinish??

The grounding wire hole is still problematic for this being a '60 body - I do realize it would be easy for someone to just drill a hole - but why would they (the owner or Fender) if the instrument came with the grounding strip in place.

Oh I think the finish work on the body was done by an owner - I have had Fenders with the stamped numbers on the body - and they are always under the guard - so I have no doubt that the factory refins were done with the instrument properly taken apart. The matte black with sparkle is not a...

Yeah .. you like the ring thats all around the edge of the pickguard and between the control plate and the pickguard ? Maybe some of thats from the finishing and stripping thats gone on - or maybe its just condensed grunge. <puts on ebola-proof suit and respirator>

Nah - that probably happened more recently than 1965. Its directly from the tuner mounting screw hole - like most of those cracks. And .. respray obviously doesn't hide them lol !!

Submitted for comment: 10/60 Jazz Bass - factory neck refinish??

Hmm .. excellent question !! As you can see, the bass did have the ground strap installed when it arrived - but there shouldn't be a grounding hole drilled under the bridge - I'll have to look back at the other stack-knobs I've done but I'm pretty sure you're right Narud. And the paint stick...

sure - here are a few more pics. It appears that the body was painted flat black with sparkles at some point and then stripped which took off most of the sunburst finish. I'm always amazed that people can do all this painting and stripping with all the hardware on !!

Submitted for comment: 10/60 Jazz Bass - factory neck refinish??

Hey all - so here's another interesting little detail I just came across on a client's 1960 Fender Jazz Bass - and thought I'd put it out there to see if others have seen similar things. The bass has been though a lot - like most instruments that get sent to me - but the headstock looked REALLY...

    60's Guild Jetstar bass

Hey Joe !! How are ya ? Glad to see you a fellow Jetstar freak grabbed that bass - I was considering it but I still have to restore the one I bought from YOU years and years ago ! But - tell me more about this prior Jetstar with a BiSonic - and send me a PM with your number - I'm about 4...

    60's Guild Jetstar bass

Got some pics of the bass - its a pretty worthwhile restoration project in my opinion, though not sure I want to invest in it at the moment. Pretty sure the green isn't original - doesn't look like its necessarily even lacquer in the closeup of the front. Though it is very close to what...

    60's Guild Jetstar bass

I'm assuming it was a 4-inline headstock (because it had Fender tuners) and not the jagged 2 X 2 headstock ??
