Holy Smoke you and Ric5 are correct! That IS my 1972 Ric. Never even noticed that in these pics Tony sent me last night. This one is the black Ric. WITH the split P. Damngg------glad you noticed. I bought it immediately after my beautiful, perfect, oh-so-sweet egg-plant Ric got snatched (#^%$^%$&^(^(%$#).

Now....how do I correct the thread title to 1972 Ric?

Hmm...I bought it at the music store on the corner of Victory Blvd and Tampa Ave there by Von's. That store is still there too.

Man, I gotta call Tony and see if he remembers when and where that gig was. He very well might and marked down the date/place when he took the shots.

Oh, i have no doubt that it is the romanticized version of the 70's that I look back on with longing. I have no doubt the reality was quite a bit different. Honestly, given my genetics and predispositions, I would have likely ended up a good looking corpse. Fortunately, by the early to mid 80's, when I was into some crazy stuff, people very publicly started dying - it didn't take too long to wise up.

Yeah, the whole nose candy thing really hit in the '80s - happily I missed most of that, being in the service by then and all. But yeah, like the whole "Vintage" insanity, folks like to romanticize the past, whatever the period of time. Lord, imagine someone romanticizing the 00s? I can't imagine it.

There were very good and very bad things in the 70's for sure, like any decade. Depends a lot on where you were and what you were doing. Things went well for me in the 70's and I had a great time despite the crazy economy and gas rationing for a while. But L.A. was jumpin' for what I was doing and supported my scrawny butt pretty well solely with my bass. And it was so damn fun the whole time. I've always been a pretty hard-nose pragmatist, even back then having spent 2 years in Nam with 3 bullet holes along the way, so not much of a romanticist personally, but I'll say, for me, 70's were fun and fruitful as heck for about 85% of the time---good enough for me.

Don't wanna talk about the 15% cuz it absolutely sucked. :atoz:

So Tony, who sent me the found pictures, and was our sound man, said the pics were from a gig at Devonshire Downs (in the San Fernando Valley...part of LA if you don't know) and definitely 1980. Man was I off!! He found them in some boxes of books off all things and said he had about 30 more boxes to go through (he is moving) so maybe more surprises. Hope so.
Gawd, I am depending on my sound man to keep me straight. Jeeeezzz.
