    Identity Crisis

That's what I figured, Groove Doctor, if you want to "brand" yourself with your own sound, or be available to cover any sound or style in order to work... the latter being more pragmatic. Thank you for the input.

    Geezer Butler signature pick ups

I wonder if there are any drawbacks to the solderless connections in these "kits." ?

    Nooblunders

Hi all. I'm still a Noob. When I signed up to TB, I dove right in. Got some great information, indeed, but I made some blunders that turned my face red. I highly recommend reading the guidelines and any posts by the Mods before diving in like I did. Much better now! And I think I'll get much...

the "round" to "growl" continuum for P-bass Pups

If one wanted to build a quiver of P-basses, which makes/models of the split coil pickups would occupy the "growl" or "cut-through" end of the spectrum? (No P/J configs here or 9 volt additions, just the passives for P-bass.) Most grateful for any knowledge on this. Thx!

    Identity Crisis

Sorry if it came across as a fish for compliments. There is a genuine question in there and was hoping for some dialogue addressing bass guitar culture and the market for working players.

    Identity Crisis

Just on the verge of becoming "officially" a working bassist (not tending bar or writing code.. actually playing the bass and getting paid for it). Long story short, I have become worried that the market for a bass-player who's playing and gear style are definitively in the realm of "Fender"...

    pickup solution for P-bass

Thx, Landau roof. Comparisons were dozens, maybe more, of youtube demos, but the strongest comparisons were the 3 other P-basses I've got that have everything from Seymour Duncan to Lollar (very good btw) to JBE and various after-market hardware options. The mostly stock configuration beats...

    pickup solution for P-bass

After months of agonizing research and thought process, I arrived at the pinnacle of solutions for the ultimate pickup to make my off-the-shelf P-bass sound super sweet.. This discovery and final decision happened as I was playing the bass to some drum loops: The pickup: Stock Fender P-bass...

    Tone-quest: P-bass

You got it! Sorry.. SF Guitarworks. They are great people and very good at their craft. The "Plek" is their fret-planing machine. You cannot believe how well your bass plays after this treatment. You can get the action lower than otherwise, and the fretboard feels like a different world. "A...

    How important are the pots?

This is great, guys. Thank you! Makes sense. I did notice one of my cheaper volume pots has all of its influence piled up at the very end of the last quarter turn. Yikes.

    How important are the pots?

Focusing on Fender P and J-Basses: How important are the potentiometers in terms of staying with "stock" or factory Fender pots or upgrading to more expensive? Does it make a difference in the quest for tone, or are the more expensive ones just "smoother" dialing or something? Building a...

    Tone-quest: P-bass

I think I got lucky on this one. Bought a new, off-the-shelf MIM P-Bass here in SF area California. Had it "Plecked" at SF works, (something every bass might want to consider), had La Bella flat 49-109's put on and a hipshot vintage (with the string ball shroud) bridge. That's it, and it...
