Vintage Japanese Basses - for those who appreciate them

Here we go: Its a pretty standard seventies MIJ P Bass copy. A bit more googling tells me Campbell were made by Terada, who did some Gibson stuff for a while, Vesta Graham and I think I saw Morris mentioned there too. The only other instrument I've found is a 335 copy that was sold on...

Vintage Japanese Basses - for those who appreciate them

Is anyone familiar with the Campbell guitar brand? I came across a Campbell Translator Bass (a p bass clone) while looking for '70's MIJ P bass copies, but I can't find anything about the brand, other than a connection with Vesta Graham. It doesn't help that Campbell is a common surname!

    Japanese P bass Copies

I've recently been GASing for a MIJ '70's P bass with a maple neck - I can't really explain why. I've seen the usual Grecos, Arias and Fernandeses - which are easy enough to find information on. I recently saw a Campbell Translator Bass, but the only information relating to the brand I could...

Ticking noise from J-pups in series

I've heard of that happening! No, I don't wear watches or jewellery. Also no. Thanks all for the advice, but it seems the wires I was using as temp connections must have been responsible. I soldered everything in series with the capacitor straight to the jack and the ticking is only faintly...

Ticking noise from J-pups in series

No neon or electric fences! Um, not sure what they're called, but here's a photo of some of the original wiring. The white one on the right is from a pick up. The ground wraps around the hot wire, which is the smaller white insulated wire.

Ticking noise from J-pups in series

Thank you for the help! I'll pull the pups out and have a look at them, see if there are any more clues there. I'm realising that trying to find information on a 30 year old instrument from a brand no longer making them is tricky.

Ticking noise from J-pups in series

I believe that the pickups are passive (my research indicates EMG Select) - they're the original pups. I have no idea if they are internally shielded - how would I check? That'd be slighty annoying! The sound is pretty good otherwise!

Ticking noise from J-pups in series

Tried again and made sure no chargers or phones. Still ticking.

Ticking noise from J-pups in series

I've recently started modding my Hohner Jack bass with EMG pups. I removed the on-board pre-amp because it eats batteries and I don't use it anyway. I then decided to wire the pups in series T/T/V as per a schematic I've seen on this site previously. It mostly worked, however, the pickups would...

    Electra/Westone club

Hi there, I'm doing some home luthiering and looking at doing something Electra inspired. Would anyone with an Electra 610 or 620 be able to help me with dimensions and scale? I can find heaps of pictures and catalogues talking up the benefits of the onboard effects but no measurements! I tried...
