For the life of me, I do not understand why this isn’t a common configuration among production instrtruments at all price points.

Maybe because they want you to buy two basses instead of one, haha.

Hi Everyone,

Picking up this ‘83 Electra Phoenix for $100! I haven’t seen it in person yet but all electronics work, even the phase switch, and the neck is straight. It needs a really good cleaning and proper setup but I should have it growling again soon.

Anyone have any suggestions on the best settings to get various tones? I had read elsewhere that the phase switch can give a good Ric tone?

Cleaned it all up, replaced the bridge with a Gotoh high mass bridge, oiled the fretboard, put on new GHS Precision Flats and new strap buttons. New knobs are being delivered tomorrow.

Picked up this Phoenix today for $75 with original case. It was dusty and missing two strings, otherwise in great shape.

Also, it appears to have been autographed by Dave Dudley, I'm in Wisconsin, which is where he was from so it makes sense. The autograph has been gone over with a woodburner, so it's not going anywhere.

That autograph happens to be in the perfect place for a classic Fender style arm contour.
and the finish would be incredibly easy to redo, or even come close to matching if you wanted to make it a really easy project...
you know, just in case you're not a lifetime devoted DudleyHead.

Yeah, I've considered removing and refinishing but I listen to a lot of old country and like Dudley well enough. Also, it's a piece of Wisconsin music history and a little weird and unique so I'll probably keep it as is. I mean, how many Dave Dudley autographed basses actually exist?

Hi there, I'm doing some home luthiering and looking at doing something Electra inspired.

Would anyone with an Electra 610 or 620 be able to help me with dimensions and scale? I can find heaps of pictures and catalogues talking up the benefits of the onboard effects but no measurements! I tried scaling an image in photoshop, but I'm not sure it worked as the body template seems small.

Here's my 1976 Westminster (Westone sibling) Matsumoku-built Jazz bass clone.

I had to reroute the mahogany body to fit some Aguilar 4J60 pickups. I also replaced the stock tuners for Gotoh GB7s and reshaped the oversized headstock.

I have some expensive basses, but this thing gives them a run for their money. It plays really nicely and does have some character.

ahhh. I don't even know what they are fetching...

although, a while back (a couple years ago), I saw a fretless version of the exact one I had, for $80, on a local list, but it got snagged up quick. I just don't see them for sale very often. Arguably, I don't go searching (for them) all the time, but, I don't see them often, none the less...

The USA market differs from the rest of the world.

Westone Thunder II's and III's regularly fetch $650 to $700 in Europe
By contrast folks in Europe struggle to sell USA Peaveys

Nice upgrading! I'm a big fan of the KA bridge and that model of Gotoh tuners!

The AliStrings that came with the Spectrum were not too bad, actually. But I wanted a fresh start. And I was very curious about the GHS Round Core Bass Boomers. They work, both optically and sound- and feel wise!

A few years ago I ran across one of those Spectrum ST basses in a shop in Vermont. Body and neck are the same as my GT, so it feels the same, but I didn't get a chance to plug it in. Would've been cool to compare the sound to the GT, given the different pickup setup.
