Ah well. Just to report back. I sent the Ampeg back as it seemed this was a common fault with no official remedy from Ampeg. In its place I bought an Warwick LWA1000 which has the addd advantage of two independently eq'd channels. It's been working fine gigging this last year; is plenty loud...

Mine is working very well. Nice and loud, and sounds very solid The second channel is entirely independent and operates simultaneously with the other.

Thanks for the info. I've had a bad experience with an SVT7PRO and am looking for alternatives. Does the LWA 1000 allow you to use both channels at the same time? I play a synth (using a 12 Step) and need to have bass guitar playing too.
