Not the most fashionable option these days but I use a Crown XLS1002 as the power amp for my Mesa preamp pedal. It costs about half of a fully integrated amp, and has an excellent HPF built in. It pushes 1100w into 4ohms bridged so it's not overkill and should be a good match for the BF 310...

I get 2, maybe 3, months out of a set of steels. Tonally, Cobalt rounds last even longer than steel IME but mechanically they age at about the same pace so 3 months is pushing it even for those, for me.

For sure. There are also numerous clubs for various brands and a lot of positivity is concentrated in those. I get the impression that people who have been in repair for a long time have seen a range of designs and have a sense of which ones are more robust than others.
