Fret Buzz on a Fretless Bass?

Sorry for resurrecting this zombie thread, but I would like to add the following: Musicnomad 24" bass fret level beam worked worked great on getting rid of the rattle. I have a Fender Jazz fretless neck that was having issues on the G and a bit on the D string. I had sanded the fretboard with...

    Duncan Heavy Weather pickups?

On my home built jazz bass, I installed initially Nordstrand Big Blade 4 Warm and Wooly. It was ok but It was too wooly and I wanted something that was more articulate. I used to have DP123 on an old Squire VM fretless and it sounded more P bass than J bass. I missed the sound of my old 2008...

    Line 6 Bass Pod Express

One other issue with I discovered with the pedal. I have EMG PJ with the BQC preamp. It clips when the bass volume is set to max. I need to back it off by 30% to avoid it. There is no pad setting in the pedal.

    Line 6 Bass Pod Express

I had something similar happen today. It only be fixed by putting in fresh batteries and it fixed everything. I used an analog battery tester and it landed on the line between yellow and green. About 8 hours of battery time. Plugging in a power supply to the device also fixed it. I thought...

    Line 6 Bass Pod Express

I have not played over 2 years and got the Pod Express Bass because it looked like it checks all the boxes. I had a Zoom B1 Four a while ago and bought a GP-200. I sold the B1 Four because of the hissing sound that it had and it always sounded somewhat Meh Fi (not Hi Fi nor Lo Fi) After a few...

    ‘73 Fretless Maple Fingerboard Repair

they are sunk in. My VM with ebonol board has proud fretlines and sanding it did the trick. I was planning to send between evey two coats if I did the wipe on. When you sanded between coats. What grit did you use? I have 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 1800, 2000, 2500 and 3000. Before in...

    ‘73 Fretless Maple Fingerboard Repair

Got a quick question on the wipe on polyurethane. Will it smooth out the microscopic divots from the fret lines? I have done the sanding route over and over again along the string path and I still get some uneven vibrator on certain frets. Thanks

    Montypresso and Pau Ferro darkening

Mostly no. The sanding I did was using a 16 inch long sanding bar along the string path from the nut to the heel. This was to make sure the string path was linear the whole length of the neck. I did some high grit 800, 1500,3000 with a radius block as well on the whole fretboard. It did get...

    Montypresso and Pau Ferro darkening

Well, I can say with objective and photographic proof that Montypresso has darken my very light pau ferro fretless neck to a degree I feel it has made a difference. I do have to state first that it has taken multiple attempts using the product to get the results over 2 months. Before each...

    What makes a bass… a bass?

I agree with this, but what about when the lines are not so clear? I got a MTJ body, Fender fretless neck, Fender tuners/ back plate / string tree, 920D prewired plate, and Nordstrand pickups? I feel more inclined calling it a MTJ with a Fender neck than calling it a mostly Fender with a MTJ...

Can't decide which bass to purchase

Since multiple people will be using the bass, I would go by with what people are willing to play. Some of the bass neck profiles will be different. I do not enjoy the traditional P bass neck profile and I prefer Jazz or Slim profiles. Others love the girth of a thick neck. This is what I think...
