Since multiple people will be using the bass, I would go by with what people are willing to play. Some of the bass neck profiles will be different. I do not enjoy the traditional P bass neck profile and I prefer Jazz or Slim profiles. Others love the girth of a thick neck. This is what I think you should find out is everyone preference. The fret radius will probably not be a factor
Now, simplicity, a straight single P pickup would work. I would probably got with the HB if you plan not to resell it later. If you want a platform to upgrade the Squier; most options to with this and it can make a Super Squier eventually.
If you want more tone options, I would go with the Court. PJ set is like a mullet. Business in the front and party in the rear. Jackson is not my style. Ibanez is the only jazz.
