Thank you very much. I 'll try with 4 / 5mm wrench.

no truss rod in my bass?

Strange, cause my SX Jazz also shows that cylinder which I could not match with my tools. Maybe the hex borders are down that tube... :)

Sorry for necroposting but I got the same bass. What wrench size did you use? Seems rather tight in my case.

    Benefits of a lighter touch!

I think good playing is to achieve a balance between good dynamic range and economy of motion.

    J-Bass 1997 Deluxe Ash Question,its worth?

I'll order Graphtech TUSQ JBass Nut, as I could not find a bone nut; also, seems TUSQ is a better material. I saw TUSQ JBass says $12.90 "per set"... How many nuts are in a graphtech set? I could not find information on GT site. TYVM

    J-Bass 1997 Deluxe Ash Question,its worth?

Well people in Argentina I've found the following available nuts qualified as Jazz Bass-compatible in a local dealer: Gotoh Bone, Brass, Bronze... any opinion on the nut materials?

    J-Bass 1997 Deluxe Ash Question,its worth?

Along with the nut I must decide the kind of strings to use... I was thinking of flatwounds, but since I want to learn to slap well, I'll continue with roundwounds, probably from a .045 set to enhance the bass tension (there is any difference passing strings through body or bridge? ) With my old...

Right, so I should find an original Fender preslotted nut... Well let's see if I can get the thingie in Argentina or order international by credit card.

Thank you, I didn't know there were black nuts in Fenders. Well, so my conclusions are the bass is awesome. I tested it and it sounds BOOM! even on a cheap Hartke amp!... I wonder how it'll sound on my little Ampeg BA112... All I need is a proper Jazz Bass nut replacement.

Thanks billy, so that nut thing leaves me room for saying the vendor "hey, this is not 100% original, let's talk about a lower price" :smug: How easy is to replace a nut? Should I send the bass to a shop? I don't like to leave this machinegun at the wrong hands... This is my first REAL bass, :p

Here are the tuners... I can't find info on what tuners were built into '97 DLX J, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Right so your 97 DLX does not have the special dots? So may be the neck is the original one. I will change that black nut, it does not fit well, I believe it was changed from the original.

But did you look at the black nut ? I thought Fender basses were made with white string nuts.. I think there are no fake decals on the headstock, but that nut is letting the 1st string very near the fret borders. I'm in doubt if I should buy this bass.
