Link Removed its a tenner, its far more accurate than a clip on, its not in the signal chain and it works (well enough to jam) with guitar as well just dont lose the ****in thing,my guitarists on his third... not sure which model you have to buy to get every single note tho...

How do you label your cords

hot pink ducttape is a good one. personally all my leads are bright colours anyway- a lot of the Planet Waves ones come in a coupla colours, looks good on stage an no-ones gna forget whos the bright green one is after the gig...

Does anyone use the 20th fret low E.. ever?

i have one part in one song where i do a two octave slide, 1-25 on the E, then hold that top A for a bar. it sounds aweeeeesome. but we basically had to write the entire mid8 round that one moment so yea... outside of weird bits like that, never. outside of fills? NEVER.

    Which strings?

old strings. ive had the same set of ernie balls on my cort for 18 months now, they keep on getting better :P make sure you buy good ones in the first place tho. splash out on a really good set, and theyll "age" better (and last longer!)

    New to bass

sounds fine but i reaaaaally wouldnt advise starting on a five string, specially if you havent had any previous guitar/double bass experience. that bottom string is extreemly difficult to handle, youll injure yourself if your not careful. my advice? start on a 4 or be very very careful...

How to make my playing more interesting

i had this problem a while back, and i now consider myself to have (begun to) overcome it. coupla tips: learn something far, far abve your skill level. even if you can only play it 1/2 or 1/4 speed, it still informs your playing and teches you how to construct busy lines without being too...

    Going through maximilist stage

now you see. dont get me wrong, i love ya to bits for saying this, and i agree that the bass should be an integral part of the band. i'm in two projects atm an in both the bass is important, plays melody as well as harmony, etc etc. but my setup is bass > amp. :P i just like a clean sound...

How "good" do you need to be before you can have a go on originals?

when i started in an originals band i couldnt even play blink 182 covers :D jus play, the only way you can get good at composing etc is by being bad for a long time right?

    Stangely Covered Basses? or guitars.

mate of mine took all the electronics/strings etc off his bass and set it on fire once. then he put everything back on and gigged with it a week later. yes that would make it sound like a POS but hey :D

Which would you upgrade first? An amp or a bass?

well i looked at this, clicked bass straight away, and then read the replies and had to rethink XD for me, every new bass ive bought has been to improve playability rather than sound, and every amp buy has been (obviously) for the sound. for example i bought a cort curbow because of the...

    Distortion

i had this problem with my old guitarist. OLD guitarist :P, he left the band essentially cause of problems between me an him, he used to just turn my amp down in the middle of songs, or turn off my distortion XD... serious note tho, theres some stuff you should be flexible about, maybe try a...

    Playing improv fills.

What professional situations do people read in?

i always feel stuck with this one. i rarely "need" to read/sightread, and even though im fascinated by therory, have done grd 7 ABRSM theory etc and can point at a note and say "F#", "G7 chord", "minor third" or w/e, i still find it very hard to read a piece for playing; normally i write my...

    Pick bass

dunlop jazz II. <3. first few years i was playing i messed around with other picks, an i'm comfortable with almost any shape now, but these... literally (i checked to a metronome :D) added 20-30% to my picking speed straight off, and thats ignoring how much advantage to string skipping, tone...
